TANK SPOTTER · THEM AND US · COUNTED 20 AUG 2026 · SHEET 1 OF 1

Them: $27,000. Us: much less. Same seven people.

Two costs and one count, side by side with what a propane office usually buys to cover the same seven people. Every figure carries its source and the date we checked it. Where a number was not clear, we counted it in their favor.

Them is what a propane office usually buys — separate tools, separate bills. Us is Tank Spotter. We counted seven people: five in the field, two in the office. That is what the average propane location actually runs. On the first two, we cost much less than they do. On the third, you get more than they give you. Every source is printed under the line.

More than 150 — what’s counted

Distinct capabilities, counted once each, grouped the way the work actually happens:

  • Safety forms
  • Service tech forms
  • Propane inspection forms
  • Tank inventory
  • Compliance records
  • Training management
  • Sales forms
  • Scheduling
  • Reporting

The safety-forms group is real paperwork, not a checkbox — the forms a tech fills out in the yard, with a customer waiting. These ship finished. The forms are already written.

Training management is not a folder either. PERC started retiring CETP in 2025 and replacing it with PEP, module by module, on a rolling twelve-month clock — the paper certificate in the drawer is becoming an online transcript. Somebody in your office has to know who holds what. Tank Spotter keeps that record next to the forms those same people fill out.

The basis.

The day you buy

Basis: five in the field and two in the office, single location, propane back-office stack. Range $27,000–$37,000 for the alternatives — per-seat licensing, safety-forms setup, and office setup (estimated). Founder market knowledge, recorded 2026-08-20.

Why seven. The average propane location runs about four drivers, one service tech and two office staff — four on the trucks for every one in the shop. Half the year those drivers work as techs, so they need every form a tech needs, plus the visual tank inspections a driver does standing at the tank. We priced all seven the same, and the range above did not move to cover the two office seats. That counts in their favor, not ours.

Hardware: on this stack you also buy tablets, mounts and docks — about $3,300–$5,295 for five trucks, published retail listings, 2026-08-20, excluded from the total.

Every month after

Basis: five in the field and two in the office — the same seven seats, the same back-office stack as the up-front panel. From $1,337 (range $1,337–$1,595). Counted in their favor: hosting unpriced, escalator unmodelled.

About those two office seats. Most propane companies do not run two salespeople. They run a manager who carries sales, safety, training and whatever else lands on the desk that morning. That manager is one of the two office seats counted here. The seat count did not change, so neither did the figure.

What you get

Basis: distinct capabilities, counted once, against the two categories of system we checked. Tank Spotter: more than 150 capabilities · all standard.

This sheet counts only the nine groups listed above — safety, service tech, propane inspections, tank inventory, compliance, training, sales, scheduling and reporting. Other Tank Spotter sheets count a wider set and print a higher floor. Same product, narrower scope here, lower floor. Counted once per capability, based on founder market knowledge and each category’s own public product information, reviewed 2026-08-20. Where a page was ambiguous, the capability was counted in the alternative’s favor. No vendor publishes a module count for any system shown; none is used here.

It is a floor; the printed index runs longer. Our prices: fuelsite.pro/en/pricing.
