Does Mississippi’s first-service propane check include the inside of an occupied home?

Does Mississippi’s first-service propane check include the inside of an occupied home?

Yes. Mississippi’s system-check rule covers first-time service and requires an interior inspection and appliance checks for occupied dwellings. An outside tank photograph does not document that interior work.

Distinguish a new account from an empty file

The regulation’s new-customer definition includes a customer previously served by another dealer and a returning customer who used another dealer in between. Section 14.04 addresses the system check. For occupied dwellings, it includes an interior inspection, relighting appliances and checking their proper operation. This work belongs with qualified personnel.

Keep records of the items checked and test results at the branch or office serving the account. For office handoffs, identify the service address and connect the interior inspection to the same service job. That is practical record organization, not a substitute for the required inspection.

FAQ

Does the customer’s signature replace the inspection?

No. The rule recommends an adult be present and sign the inspection report; that recommendation does not erase the inspection requirements.

Can we rely only on the former dealer’s account history?

Use the current rule’s new-customer definition and your qualified safety lead’s procedure. An existing appliance is not proof that your first-service check occurred.
