NFPA 54 and 58: What Paperwork Should You Keep?

For NFPA 54 and NFPA 58 work, build a record packet that matches the job and the code edition your local authority uses. As a filing plan, group the site details, check results and follow-up. Have your safety lead map each required record to the rule before choosing a form.

Match the code to the work

NFPA 54 is the National Fuel Gas Code. Its scope includes fuel gas piping and appliances. NFPA 58 covers LP-Gas storage, handling, transport and use. Start with the work at this site, then ask your local authority which edition and provisions apply.

Build a job record your office can trace

Start the draft file layout with the customer, site and equipment ID. Add the job date, worker, check type and actual result. Link any issue to its repair and follow-up record.

Do not title this list “the required NFPA form.” It is a filing plan for your reviewer to check against the applicable code.

Compare the form with your process

Tank Spotter has gas-check, out-of-gas and pre-delivery forms. Bring a job file to the demo and ask how to keep its site, date and result together. Use the product page to compare those forms with the records your company needs. Have your reviewer check what the form covers.

Questions and answers

Do NFPA 54 and 58 cover the same work?

They have different scopes. Have your safety lead identify the provisions that fit the job and the site.

Does this page list every required field?

No. Use the filing plan as a starting point, then have the required content checked against the applicable edition.

Should a photo stand alone?

Our suggested record links it to a site, date and check result. Do not leave the office to guess which job it shows.

How should unresolved issues appear?

Keep each issue open in your process until its approved follow-up is recorded. Link the later work to the first finding.
